General Web UI/UX
Below are a few comparisons between the legacy desktop platform and the Web2 platform, where I spent most of my time refining the product. The early desktop version was designed without dedicated designer oversight, so many decisions were made with a ‘ship the feature and make it work’ mindset. Working on Web2 was essentially a clean slate, which created significant opportunities to improve quality-of-life features, reduce congestion, and deliver a far more modern and appealing product than the desktop version.
Out with the old, in with the new
Despite numerous accessibility issues and interfaces overloaded with interactions and information, the desktop platform served as a useful foundation for making Web2 a significantly better tastytrade experience.

Much of my time on Web2 was spent improving existing features—using color where it made the most sense, refining surfaces to emphasize the most important information, ensuring text met WCAG accessibility standards, and updating every element for a more modern look and feel.

Structurally, the trading experience remains largely the same, since much of the displayed information is essential to the workflow. However, significant effort went into refining the overall UI to feel more breathable and clean, while conserving space in an already information-dense platform.

To save space, I focused on making navigation recognizable in both compact and collapsed states. This improved the experience on small screens by allowing users to scale the central content, reducing congestion and making the interface feel less cramped.
